Amazon’s Prime Video is going deep into genre in order to lure more subscribers. The streamer is moving ahead with season two of “The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power” and already has a plan to turn the acclaimed game “God of War” (the recent two installments exploring a version of Norse mythology) into a live-action series too. They’re also doing the same with the beloved post-apocalypse video game franchise “Fallout.”

Thankfully, we now know when the “Fallout” series will debut as Variety revealed that its debut date on Prime Video will be April 12, 2024. Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner are the executive producers, writers, and co-showrunners. “Westworld” duo Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are also part of the producing team via Kilter Films under their Amazon overall deal, with Nolan directing the show.

Actors assembled for the streaming series set in a post-apocalypse Los Angeles consists of Walton Goggins (“The Hateful Eight”), Ella Purnell (“Yellowjackets”), Kyle MacLachlan (“Twin Peaks”), Xelia Mendes-Jones, and Aaron Moten. Also, the show will now be part of the in-game canon and should make fans happy it will be doing its own thing.

The world of “Fallout” takes place within an alternative history where there is such advanced technology leading to these super-bunkers being developed in the wake of a nuclear war that breaks out and allows for various parts of the United States to live underground until the radioactive fallout dissipates and the population in the these “Vaults” can leave and re-start society.

Variety also provided a synopsis for the sci-fi series:

“Fallout” takes place in a future, post-apocalyptic Los Angeles. Citizens must live in underground bunkers to protect themselves from radiation, mutants, and bandits after nuclear annihilation. The story begins in Vault 33, one such bunker that is a prominent setting in the video games.

Non-fans might observe that there is some obvious overlap here with Apple’sSilo” series, but it sounds like the show is going to be more focused on the wasteland, and there are some incredibly bonkers things out there to discover and, more importantly, run away from. We’re sure a first-look trailer is just around the corner as the promotion for “Fallout” will likely start to get into gear now that Amazon has planted a release date for it.

The popular game was previously rumored to have attracted Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro to make a live-action commercial for “Fallout 4” that you can watch below before we get our mitts on more series footage. Although del Toro has never confirmed he himself directed it.
