‘The Boys In The Boat’ First Look: Go Behind-The-Scenes Of George Clooney’s Upcoming Sports Drama

The past several years have been very productive for George Clooney, as a filmmaker. Having released films in 2020 (“The Midnight Sky”) and 2021 (“The Tender Bar”), it appears Clooney is ready for his third film in four years, “The Boys on the Boat,” which is positioning itself as a serious awards contender.

Now, we have a first look at “The Boys in the Boat,” the upcoming sports drama directed by George Clooney. The film is based on the true story of the 1936 University of Washington rowing team—an unlikely group of athletes who come together to shock the world and compete at the Summer Olympics in Berlin.

The film stars Joel Edgerton and Callum Turner. Clooney directs, based on a script from Mark L. Smith, the writer of “The Revenant.” Smith also collaborated with Clooney on the aforementioned “The Midnight Sky.”

“The Boys in the Boat” arrives in theaters on December 25. You can watch the first-look featurette below.

The film, directed by George Clooney, is about the 1936 University of Washington rowing team that competed for gold at the Summer Olympics in Berlin. This inspirational true story follows a group of underdogs at the height of the Great Depression as they are thrust into the spotlight and take on elite rivals from around the world.
