New ‘Anyone But You’ Trailer: Sydney Sweeney & Glen Powell Star In New Rom-Com On December 22

Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell are two Hollywood stars on the rise, so it only makes sense to pair them onscreen in a new rom-com, right? That’s the logic of Sony Pictures Releasing, who have “Anyone But You” hitting theaters next month. And Sony hopes their movie breathes new life into what many consider a dead genre. Are Sweeney and Powell up to that task?

The new trailer for “Anyone But You” indicates that the duo indeed have simmering onscreen chemistry, but it takes more than that to keep a rom-com afloat. So how about revamping a classic story from the genre, Shakespeare‘s “Much Ado About Nothing“? Sweeney and Powell play two people who, after a bad date, run into each other at a wedding sometime later without +1s. To make things less awkward, they decide to pose as an item; what’s the worst that could happen?

Here’s an official synopsis for “Anyone But You,” courtesy of Sony Pictures Releasing:

In the edgy comedy Anyone But You, Bea and Ben look like the perfect couple, but after an amazing first date something happens that turns their fiery hot attraction ice cold – until they find themselves unexpectedly thrust together at a destination wedding in Australia. So they do what any two mature adults would do: pretend to be a couple.

“Anyone But You” also stars Alexandra ShippGaTaHadley Robinson, and Michelle Hurd.  Dermot MulroneyDarren Barnet, and Rachel Griffiths round out the main cast.

Will Gluck directs “Anyone But You” from a script he co-writes with Ilana Wolpert, who also has a story credit. Gluck also co-produces the film with Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum. Executive producers on “Anyone But You” include Sweeney, Alyssa AltmanJacqueline MonettaCatherine BishopNatalie SellersCharlie CorwinSidney KimmelMark O’Connor, and Jonathan Davino.
