The Perfect Man: Holly & Amy scene
INT. GYM - DAY
Holly and Amy find themselves sitting next to each other on the bleachers, during a coed basketball game in gym class.
AMY
Don’t look over there.
HOLLY
Where?
AMY
At him. The biggest jerk in the whole world, but I am totally obsessed with him.
HOLLY
If he’s a jerk, why are you obsessed with him?
AMY
What? You gonna tell me you never fell for some guy who won’t give you the time of day, but still you’re mental on him?
HOLLY
I don’t do crushes.
AMY
Do you do "names"? Mine’s Amy.
HOLLY
Holly. FYI, I also don’t do sleepovers or best friends.
AMY
Why’s that?
HOLLY
Just like to travel light.
Angle on Jay who becomes aware Holly is watching him. He performs some serious moves. Dunking the ball.
AMY
Whoa. Hang it up. Change of course. Is it my imagination, or is Jay looking over here?
HOLLY
It’s your imagination.
AMY
I don’t have a creative bone in my body, which means I lack imagination - which must mean Jay is checking you out.
HOLLY
He is not.
AMY
What if he was? Do you like Jay?
HOLLY
Not interested. I think romance is a highly overrated concept.
Amy gives her a look of disbelief.
HOLLY (CONT’D)
I mean, it’s good terrain for poets or songwriters who sell mush, but for real people? Never works.
AMY
Harsh. (Beat) Look, I know you don’t do crushes or sleepovers, but do you do ice cream?
