The Perfect Man: Holly & Amy scene

EXT. SCHOOL - DAY

Groups of tough-looking, multicultural kids crowd the steps of the entrance. Holly approaches the metal detectors. Amy nudges her.

AMY

Not for nothin’, but if you’re hiding any knives or guns, they usually find em’.

HOLLY

If I’m what??

AMY

(nods toward metal detectors)

Oh, I get it. You’re new, right?

HOLLY

The dazed look gave it away, huh?

AMY

Nah. Most kids in school look like that. It’s your hair.

HOLLY

My hair looks new?

AMY

It looks virgin. No dye, no tint, no extensions. Brooklyn girls lose their hair virginity by fifth grade.

HOLLY

And to think in fifth grade I was only learning how to multiply.

AMY

So, divorce, death, or bankruptcy?

HOLLY

What?

AMY

Why you moved. Usually when a new kid shows up mid-semester, those are the top three reasons-- so which is it?

HOLLY

I guess all three. That is if you count my mother’s last husband. He was so boring he may as well have been dead.

AMY

Her last? How many husbands has she had?

HOLLY

Do you want them in order of height, age, or gross-out factor?
