Man Up: Nathan scene
INT. WILL’S HOUSE - MORNING
NATHAN
Dad! Guess what! Samantha Gunner just called and said she’s coming to my party tomorrow. This girl is incredible, Dad. Most people think she’s a ninth grader, if you know what I mean.
WILL
I know what you mean.
NATHAN
So, what do I do? How do I handle this?
WILL
Your best bet is a bouncy castle. A bouncy castle is like a twelve- year-old’s bachelor pad. She’ll be putty in your hands.
NATHAN
Right! I’ll definitely need some hand sanitizer. I’ll dowse it before the party starts. Those rentals are pretty funky.
Will sees something on facebook.
WILL
Nathan! Did you just defriend me on Facebook?
NATHAN
Well, you update your status too much and it’s embarrassing!
WILL
No, it’s not!
Nathan sighs.
NATHAN
"Nathan’s turning thirteen. Daddy’s little man is all grown up! Smiley face"!
WILL
That’s not embarrassing. It’s sweet!
NATHAN
It’s very embarrassing.
WILL
Well, I’m sorry that I love you and I’m proud you’re all grown up. Now go refriend me or you’re grounded.
Beat.
WILL (CONT’D)
Listen, about your birthday gift. I wanted to get you something special--
NATHAN
Yeah, Mom gave it to me. I love it. I know it’s violent and scary, but I promise I won’t get nightmares. I think I’m old enough for it now. Thanks so much, Dad.
WILL
(taking out his old hunting
knife) I think you’re old enough for something else too.
NATHAN
(his eyes go wide)
Are you serious? The Old Mohaska?
WILL
Yeah. Every man needs one.
NATHAN
(beside himself)
Thanks, Dad!
WILL
Happy birthday, Nate.
